Lawrence R. Sherman, CFP®, AIF®

As one of the founders and principal advisors of Sherman Werst Wealth Advisors, Larry provides individuals, professional practices, and small businesses with a wealth of specialized, comprehensive financial guidance for investment, retirement, and estate planning, as well as other wealth management needs. He began his financial practice in 1987 and joined Jim in 1997 to form Sherman Werst Wealth Advisors.

Larry earned a bachelor’s from Boston University and a master’s from Penn State in addition to postgraduate coursework and certifications. His career has included social service activities as a mental health professional and work as a CPA for national and local firms prior to his financial planning career.

Larry and his wife, Joan, have lived in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, for more than 30 years and have three adult children. Larry has been active in a variety of community activities and is currently a volunteer member of the local Youth Aid Panel. Larry enjoys spending time with friends, kayaking in the Atlantic Ocean, playing golf, and wood turning.

James L. Werst, CFP®, AIF®

As cofounder and principal of Sherman Werst Wealth Advisors, Jim provides comprehensive advice to individuals and small businesses in the areas of asset management, retirement planning, and estate planning, as well as other wealth management needs. When working with small businesses, Jim coordinates the design, implementation, and maintenance of qualified retirement plans, specializing in the 401(k) marketplace. In 1997, Jim joined forces with Larry to create an independent firm that would provide objective advice as an alternative to the large brokerage firm. 

Jim earned his bachelor’s from Shippensburg State College. Soon after joining a large national financial planning firm in 1984, Jim earned his CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ certification. Jim served as president of the Central PA Society of Certified Financial Planners® for two years, after joining with a number of local CFP®professionals in forming the CFP® local society.

Jim and his wife, Sharon, are longtime residents of Lancaster, Pennsylvania, and both are graduates from local high schools. They have two children, Janelle and Stephen.

Jim spent a number of years on the board of the Hempfield Educational Foundation as well as being involved in a number of other local charity events. In his spare time, Jim stays active by playing golf and participating in USTA tennis leagues. 

Mark A. Roda, CRPC®, AIF®

A Lancaster County native, Mark joined Sherman Werst Wealth Advisors in 2011 to offer his clients a more personalized and independent approach to managing wealth. Prior to joining the firm, he worked for a global trust company and a national brokerage firm. Mark has more than 10 years of industry experience working with individuals, nonprofits, and corporations. At Sherman Werst, he offers investment management, retirement/legacy planning, and employer-sponsored retirement plan consulting services.

Mark spends a great deal of time educating his clients about the markets, investment strategies, and the many investment vehicles available to them as consumers. He believes that clearly explaining the firm’s investment philosophy, its processes, and disclosing conflicts of interest is critical to helping them make informed, confident decisions about their wealth. His clients vary from successful professionals/business owners to individuals and families working toward or currently enjoying retirement. Mark understands that each client has a unique set of needs and welcomes the opportunity to help them create a personalized financial plan. One area of interest is social security, where he enjoys helping his clients form strategies to maximize their benefit.

Mark earned a bachelor’s from Bloomsburg University. He has completed coursework through the College of Financial Planning to become a Chartered Retirement Planning CounselorSM and the Center for Fiduciary Studies to earn the Accredited Investment Fiduciary® designation.

Mark lives in Elizabethtown with his wife, Ann, and daughter, Claire. He has volunteered for a variety of community and service organizations, including Bloomsburg University Alumni Association, Junior Achievement, and United Way of the Capital Region as a member of its investment committee.

Aaron D. Sherman, CFP®

Aaron works with individuals, families, and businesses to organize and plan their financial future. He incorporates investment, tax, retirement, estate, and insurance planning into a holistic service for clients.

Before becoming a financial planner, Aaron worked at the Federal Reserve Bank of New York. Among other duties, he worked with policy makers across the Federal Reserve System and at other central banks around the world to coordinate reforms in derivatives markets. His success in this role led to a six-month assignment working at the European Central Bank, where he helped to implement derivatives reforms in the European market.

He previously worked at a global macro hedge fund, where he traded global currencies, government bonds, equities, and other financial products on behalf of investors seeking strong returns.

Aaron earned a bachelor’s from Tufts University and a master’s from Johns Hopkins University’s School of Advanced International Studies. He also holds a Certificate in Financial Planning from New York University’s School of Professional Studies. Aaron is a CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ practitioner and holds FINRA Series 7 and 66 securities registrations through Commonwealth Financial Network®.

Aaron lives in Lititz with his wife, Leah, and their two children. He is an active skier, runner, cyclist, and outdoor enthusiast. He and his family like to travel wherever and whenever possible. Aaron is an active member of the community and currently serves on the Board of Trustees of the Lancaster Public Library
